How the calculator works

Makeup is the running total of a staked player's losses that must be won back before any profit is split. Each period, the calculator:

  1. Adds any pre-chop to makeup, grossed up by the split (see below).
  2. Takes the period's result. Losses are added to makeup. Wins pay makeup down first.
  3. Splits any profit above makeup at your chosen percentage, and resets makeup to zero.
  4. Handles rakeback: either split straight away, or added to the result so it pays down makeup.

"Backer net" is the backer's overall profit or loss, including any starting makeup: everything they've received back minus everything they've funded, including pre-chops. While a player is in makeup, the backer shows a loss until it's won back.

Why pre-chops add twice the amount on a 50/50 deal

A pre-chop is an advance on the player's share of future profit. On a 50/50 deal, a $500 pre-chop adds $1,000 to makeup. When that $1,000 is won back, it's split 50/50: the backer's $500 goes back to the backer, and the player's $500 has already been paid. If only $500 were added, the player would end up $500 ahead and the backer would get nothing. On a 60/40 deal, a $600 pre-chop adds $1,000 (600 ÷ 0.6).

Questions

Is makeup split at the end of every month?

In most deals, yes: profit above makeup is chopped at the end of each month, and some deals also let the player request a chop whenever they're in profit. The calculator treats each row as one settlement period.

What's the difference between makeup and markup?

Makeup is carried-over losses in a long-term staking deal. Markup is a premium charged when selling action in a single tournament. They're unrelated.
